I'm a rule follower and not really interested in illicit substances, especially not ones that involve needles. But this movie made me want to try heroin.
So, I’m that rare thing, particularly among my friend group, being a Scotsman who doesn’t like Trainspotting. I think it’s a well made movie but it’s just too bleak for me. Yes, there is humour but it’s a desperate kind of humour that is born from despair. However, Renton’s speech about why it’s “shite being Scottish” is probably the one that strikes home hardest up here. A far more light hearted look at hard times in Edinburgh would be Restless Natives which would also fall into your 90 minute run time 😁
Pulp Fiction came out 30 years ago this year and I also had the posters on my walls even though I think I’m a wee bit older than yourself so I really should have known better 😁
This is a film that imprinted so well the first time around I’ve never actually rewatched it. But I do own a copy of the screenplay which I have definitely returned to multiple times over the years.
Trainspotting and Requiem for a Dream* have gone somewhat hand in hand in my brain, cinematically and thematically, ever since seeing them when they first came out despite there being a few years between their releases.
It's been so long since I've seen this. You definitely reawakened some memories. I've been considering the second one, but a rewatch of the first would be best and... I don't know, too many ghosts.
Like, you never want to see more of the thing you liked? Pretty odd! Though I don't like shows that go on for more than a couple of seasons, and I won't do a book series beyond the first one. So maybe I can relate? Sometimes I do have a need to be a completist.

Hey, it's Friday night somewhere!

Happy to find this. I'm all about the 90 (ish) minute rule ESPECIALLY if I'm going to the theater. Check out some of those old Roger Corman flicks...
Right, like, please don’t lock me in a theater for three hours.
And oh good call! Perfect for spooky season.

I imagine it may be how I feel about Manchester by the Sea being from Massachusetts. Like, once was an enough to be destroyed.
Thank you for the suggestion! This sounds great.
I guess we all fell prey to Pulp Fiction 😫 my mom even had the soundtrack when I was a kid.

*(I’ve also never rewatched RfaD either)
I bet reading the screenplay is so fun. I need to find a copy, I’m curious to see how it’s written.
Yes! They’re tied together in my brain as well only Requiem made me so so so so sad. I would never ever rewatch it. I just can’t.

I still haven’t seen the second one either but now I’m considering it. I am not a big sequel person, it’s a weird habit.

I think I rarely enjoy a sequel and so I started giving up - they were tainting my shit! There are some I love but for the most part… 😒
