One of my favorites, I've watched this dozens of times.

It's also one of those cases where this is one of the last of the truly lawless DVD commentaries. Studios used to let you say ANYTHING on the commentary back then, and it was only the early 2000's when they started to post disclaimers and actively edit/censor commentaries.

The one for this one has Soderbergh actively fighting with screenwriter Lem Dobbs over the creative decisions Soderbergh made in basically chopping up Dobbs' screenplay and it gets really heated.

(not too heated: they later made "Haywire" together)

(fyi: Haywire -- 93 mins and excellent)

It is so excellent. I could watch this movie every week probably. Commentary sounds like a trip! I love an unhinged chat between creatives.

And thank you for the reccomendation!

The Limey is such a great film and loved your post as always! I was living in LA back in1999 when it was released and saw it in the theater, and I've probably seen it a handful of times since then but it's been a long time. Like many of your reviews, it gets me to go back and revisit old favorites. Thanks!

I used to see so many movies back then…where I lived in LA I could walk to maybe 5 or 6 theaters and had a ton that were a short drive. 😊 Thank you for all your great reviews!

Oh man, I love the Limey. The movie supposedly made little to nothing at the box office but it then got an amazing DVD release. I do believe I wrote a short essay discussing the film's editing style in one of my earliest classes in college. Loved how it was an experimental genre movie and that music score! There was apparently also the possibility of it getting a sequel at one point, which would've had Wilson go after the 'friends' that betrayed him. I wish it were made.

This is so a movie that needs a sequel. I can’t explain it but it feel like the grandfather to Crank. A sleepy Crank. 🤣

We need more British gangsters in America movies. But not with Jason Statham.

I love Statham but totally agree. Let's get some others on the screen please!

I feel like at some point I most definitely knew this movie existed, but also knew nothing about it? Or maybe I watched it and have completely forgotten (the late 90s, early 00s were a particularly movie-intensive era for me)? Either way, I can't wait to see it now! Thank you!

I have so many movies like that! Like I think I’ve seen it but it turns out, I’ve just heard or read a lot about it! There has to be a name for that type of phenomenon!
