I love Daybreakers. The finale, I think, was a little overblown, with way too many twists and reversals. But it is overall a great mid-budget genre movie that screams cult classic. I'm hoping one day the Spierigs will make a sequel.
This makes me want to rewatch Daybreakers with a notebook in hand. Who knew a blood-slick vampire flick could double as a capitalism allegory? Also, bless Dafoe for existing.
I don't remember this film . . . at all. Not even a hint of recognition that I might have been buzzed and saw the trailer at some point. But enjoyed your review as always and makes me want to watch it!
You were right on the money with this one. It’s got room for improvement and pretty predictable in a lot of ways, but there’s a lot to love in it and I’ve always thought it was a hidden gem that deserves more love.
I've never seen Daybreakers, but I love what you said in your last paragraph, and I think it connects to the whole 90-minute movie idea. I don't hate long movies, but I get annoyed when they are long and don't give me enough to think about and talk about (unless all I'm talking about is how bad it is.) Thanks, as always, for an insightful post.
I love the idea of vegan vampires. It sounds like a bit from “what we do in the shadows.”
Hahahaha. Yes. An episode where they meet vampires from Williamsburg.

I'd love for them to make a sequel. The world is very rich and there's a lot to do with it!

Truly. Dafoe is a gift to us all.
Not sure how I missed seeing this, but have to watch it!
You’ll love it!!

Wow! I’m taking this as a compliment! Give it a go… it’s pretty fun.
Props for the Uncle Eddie reference.

Thanks so much for reading! A hidden gem, indeed. I'm really glad it came my way. I know I will watch it again in the future.

Thanks for reading! And yeah - give me depth or give me death!
