Watched this when it came out as, similar to yourself, it had my boy Kurt in it. Really enjoyed it and remember it being slightly more upbeat than the similarly themed but much grimmer, The Vanishing
I remember really liking Breakdown, though I don't recall much of the plot. It's the kinda movie Hollywood doesn't make much anymore: low-to-mid budget studio picture with a name lead.
I was in junior high when this came out, I figured I'd eventually see it on video. Then I got a weird phone call on a Wednesday night. My neighbor of the same age, in a grade below me, asked if I wanted to go to the movies with him and his mother to see this. And I said sure.
Found out that it was his mother's birthday. She chose to celebrate by taking her grade school kid and his friend, and not her husband, to see Kurt Russell on the big screen. I was always weirdly touched and also saddened by this.

I haven’t seen The Vanishing but it is definitely more of a fun ride than that one looks!
Gotta watch this
Definitely! You’re going to love it.

I miss movies like this 😔
Great review! I gotta watch this one again!
Thank you! Would love to hear your thoughts once you give it another go!

There’s something very sweet about that. I liked to think she just knew what she wanted vs maybe something sad.
Well, Kurt Russell certainly has the world’s greatest hair. I can see the appeal to a woman her age.

I’d still do him and he’s 73.
