I took the four day holiday weekend to relax and enjoy time with friends. Instead of searching for 90-minute movies to watch, I sat and watched The Thing for the 50th time. Instead of furiously scribbling notes down in a dark room, I cuddled on a couch. Instead of researching obscure character actors all week, I watched Love Island for the first time, finished Human Resources, and rolled my eyes at And Just Like That…
But because I took a break that means there isn’t a new post this week. Please try not to despair! I know this will be hard for you. To soften the blow, I’ve put together a list of my favorite posts over the past year. A lot of you are new here (omg, hi!) and this will be a good taste of what I do around here…
Brick (110 minutes)
Though I really push the limits on runtime with this one (110 minutes is my max), Rian Johnson’s Brick is a near-perfect film.
The Blob (95 minutes)
Kevin Dillon with a mullet, the birth of scream queen Shawnee Smith, and great practical effects. 1988’s The Blob is B-Movie magic.
The Night of The Hunter (92 minutes)
One of the scariest and most visually stunning black and white movies you’ll ever see. The Night of The Hunter is a brilliant piece of filmmaking.
But I’m A Cheerleader (85 minutes)
Campy, vibrant, queer film But I’m a Cheerleader gives us Natasha Lyonne as naïve Megan, a cheerleader sent to conversion therapy camp to learn proper gender roles and to be converted to a heterosexual. Controversial, groundbreaking, hysterical.
Ok, I hope this is enough to keep you busy while I get going on the next batch of brilliant 90-minute movies. It’s summertime, so I’ll try and keep the movies fun. As always, I take suggestions! Drop me a comment and let me know what you’d like to see here.
I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend without work
